You don't need a full rebrand to look credible. A few design fundamentals do most of the work.

People decide in about a second whether an ad is worth their attention. That's not much time to explain your offer, so the design has to do the talking quickly. The good news: professional-looking ads come from a handful of habits, not from expensive software.

1. Give it one clear message

Every ad should be about one thing. "Flat 20% off on all sarees this weekend" is a message. A poster with the logo, five offers, a paragraph of text and three phone numbers is a wall of noise. If you have several offers, make several ads.

2. Build a visual hierarchy

Decide what the eye should see first, second and third. Usually that's the headline, then the image or product, then the call to action. Use size, weight and colour to guide it. If everything is big and bold, nothing stands out.

3. Make the text easy to read

Use strong contrast between text and background: dark on light or light on dark. Don't place text over a busy part of a photo without a solid or semi-transparent panel behind it. Keep the text large enough to read on a phone at arm's length, and avoid long paragraphs entirely.

4. Limit fonts and colours

Two fonts at most, and three or four colours drawn from your brand. Use one font for headlines and one for supporting text. Mixing five typefaces is the fastest way to look amateur. Keep your logo, colours and fonts consistent from ad to ad, so people start to recognise you. Our branding basics post explains why that matters.

5. Use whitespace

Empty space is not wasted space. It gives the message room to breathe and makes the ad feel more premium. Resist the urge to fill every corner.

6. Use good images

Blurry, stretched or watermarked pictures instantly reduce trust. Use sharp photos, ideally your own real products, team or work. If you use stock images, choose ones that don't look staged, and never use pictures you don't have rights to. Crop to focus on the subject.

7. Respect the platform's layout

For Stories and Reels, the top and bottom of the screen are covered by app buttons and captions, so keep important text and faces away from those edges. Common sizes are 1080 x 1080 for square posts, 1080 x 1350 for portrait feed posts and 1080 x 1920 for Stories and Reels. Always preview the ad on a phone before launching it.

8. Give a clear call to action

Tell people what to do: "Book a free demo", "Order on WhatsApp", "Call now". Make the button or line visible, and make sure the landing page continues the same message, as described in our post on landing pages.

9. Mind the festival clutter

During Diwali, Eid or wedding season, everyone's ads look crowded and gold. Simple, clean designs with one strong offer often stand out more than the fifteenth ad with fireworks and diyas.

10. Test and refresh

Run two or three versions with different images or headlines and see which one gets more enquiries, not just clicks. Replace ads that have been running for a long time and are starting to slow down. Save what works as a template.

If you'd like ads and social posts that look consistent and professional without doing it all yourself, our graphic design team can build a template system for your brand.

Quick answers

Can I make professional ads with Canva?

Yes, if you follow basic principles: clear hierarchy, limited fonts and colours, good images and consistent branding.

How much text should an ad image have?

As little as you can get away with. One headline, maybe a short supporting line and a clear call to action.

How often should I change my ad creatives?

When performance drops or your audience starts seeing the same ad too often. Test new versions regularly.

We use these same steps every week for shops, clinics and offices in Nehru Place, Chhattarpur and nearby South Delhi areas.
