How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Business

Reviews are one of the biggest things you can control on Google Maps. Most happy customers will leave one if you make it easy.

When people compare two shops or clinics on Google Maps, the one with more recent, genuine reviews usually gets the call. Reviews also help Google decide which businesses to show for local searches. The good news is that most satisfied customers are happy to leave a review. They just need a reminder and an easy way to do it.

1. Get your direct review link

In your Google Business Profile, use the option to ask for reviews and copy the short link. This opens the review box directly, so customers do not have to search for your business first. Save this link where your team can find it quickly.

2. Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after a good experience: when a customer thanks you at the counter, when a job is finished or after a successful appointment. A simple line works: "If you were happy with us, a Google review would really help our small business."

3. Use WhatsApp and a QR code

Send the review link on WhatsApp with the bill, invoice or appointment follow-up. Put a QR code at the billing counter or reception that opens the same link. These two steps alone often double the number of reviews.

4. Reply to every review

Thank people for positive reviews by name. For negative reviews, stay calm, apologise for the experience, avoid arguing in public and offer to sort it out on a call. Future customers read your replies as carefully as the reviews. Our guide on handling a bad review goes into more detail.

What not to do

  • Do not buy reviews or ask friends and staff to post fake ones. Google removes them and can suspend your listing.
  • Do not offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. This is against Google's rules.
  • Do not ask only happy customers through a filter system. Ask everyone in the same simple way.
  • Do not copy and paste the same reply on every review.

Make it a routine

Steady reviews every week look more natural, and help more, than fifty reviews in one month and then none. Set a small target, such as three to five new reviews a week, and make asking part of your normal process.

Quick answers

Can I delete a bad Google review?

No, but you can report a review that breaks Google's rules, such as spam or a review from someone who was never a customer. For genuine negative reviews, a calm public reply is the best response.

How many reviews do I need?

There is no fixed number. What matters is having more recent, genuine reviews than nearby competitors and getting new ones regularly.

Do review replies help ranking?

Replies mainly help trust and conversions, since customers read them. Keeping your profile active, including replies, is part of good local SEO.
